Pros and Cons of Online Recruitment
Online recruitment technologies are more popular than ever, for the most part because of the pandemic. According to Mercer Mettl, India is the world’s leader in this regard. Businesses there are preparing to recruit new employees using technological tools much more than other countries. However, there is potential trouble.
As cio.com states, COVID-19 has normalized working remotely and forced employers to use new technologies for contacting candidates. By the way, India, which has one of the world’s fastest growing economies, reports a trend: 81 % of respondents of this year’s study called The State of Talent Acquisition confirmed that they use online recruitment tools more and more. 56 % of them had already switched to virtual screening, 85 % to virtual interviews and 54 % to virtual onboarding.
Among the greatest advantages of this type of recruitment, Indian companies consider cost savings, shortening the recruitment cycle and future opportunity identification. For 32 % of those who went this direction, improving brand awareness and easier achieving of HR specialists’ impartiality when recruiting is important.
However, it’s important to note that the study is accompanied by a lot of uncertainties. Although recruiters are able to reveal skills and experience of employees, whether they will be suitable for the cultural setting of the whole organization poses a question. There’s no easy way to find that out online. Another problem might be a paradoxically long recruitment process. When they focused on the numbers, they found that only 28 % of companies filled vacant positions in one month, but for 63 % of respondents, it took much longer, sometimes even a quarter of a year. However, globally, it is estimated that 52 % of businesses managed to do that during the first month. Despite that, only 29 % complained about long recruitment processes in India.
Some of the greatest challenges for these companies are finding and attracting excellent talents, being able to narrow down their selection and check them out through well executed virtual interviews. Considering the fact that 63 % of local businesses are planning to increase the numbers of recruited employees this year, responsible managers will have to work intensively with online recruitment.
