Xpo Logistics Adds Augmented Reality to Last Mile Logistics
XPO Logistics, the world’s leading provider of last mile logistics for heavy and bulky shipments in North America, announced that it’s planning to introduce augmented reality to its self-service customer platform called Ship XPO.
Customers will be provided with visualization technologies to help them determine the optimal placement of heavy shipments, such as cabinets, beds and other equipment, before the delivery process itself.
“Augmented reality is another innovation that our retail and e-commerce customers can offer to consumers, providing more control over the shopping experience,” said Troy Cooper, president of XPO Logistics
Technology creates a virtual picture of how a particular product will look in the given room and therefore, greatly reduces the likelihood of the goods being returned. Augmented reality increases the efficiency of the entire last mile process, reducing the time required to place furniture inside the house, as well as the risk of product damage.
